Hey, I hope all of you had a great time well spent during this festive break mid week and the upcoming new years holiday. Last Saturday was a very special day as I got engaged. It was double happiness to know that Selb gave birth to her second child a day before my engagement; like how our birthdays are also a day apart. Hey! I'm sure you have seen our recent shawl design on our Instagram feed and stories. It's a tribute to 60 years of our National State Crest, National Pledge and National Anthem. The team and I were so honoured to be part of #my1959. When briefed to create a design based on these symbols, we chose the National Anthem. We have all sang the Majulah Singapura all our lives during school assembly but do we really relate every word of it to our lives now? The composer Zubir Said is stranger to none. It's that time of the year again, every November. BE kollective is made up of me, Selb and five of my artists/designer friends. We just had an art opening for our BE goes Wild exhibition. This year, I partnered with an art buddy, Izzan from Northlight school. I first met Izzan at Jurong Bird Park, together with the other art buddies and BE mentors. I remembered he expressed his excitement about seeing the dinosaur descendants birds. He sat and sketched quite a detailed drawing. Weeks later, we met again to start painting on canvas. Our third and last dreamer for this season is Ocean G. She is a graphic designer who enjoys painting with ink (me too)! We were both inspired by Wu Guanzhong who has Western and Eastern influences in his Chinese painting. You can see his works here. Fun fact: Ocean's father won the bid to construct our Wisma Geylang! It's only natural that her likings for architecture was the main inspiration for the Pinnacle shawl. Ocean painted one of her favourite sightings of these building with cranes. The linear structure of Pinnacle Journey and diagonal lines of the cranes was achieved by printing lines. Drawing these lines would give an entirely different look.
