#lullyslist | Markmaking tools

It's the 4th day of Ramadan, how has it been for you? Last Friday I went live on Instagram as part of #stayinwithLS. It was also our first live LS experience where we usually share behind the scenes of how we produce our shawl prints.  The theme was to make an artwork which you can have it displayed on your walls or fridge. During the live, some of the viewers were surprised at how a humble household item can be used to create interesting marks! My favourite tool got to be thread attached to chopstick and cotton buds.   Just look at that loose fluid marks made by the thread. All you have to do is to cut a piece or...

#lullyslist | International Womens Day 2020

It’s that day of the year where the social media feed is full of dedications and appreciation posts to all the lovely women. Juggling life wearing different types of hats, let’s also remember thy self. Days where we are in doubt but just wing it anyway; fulfilling expectations. Let us be kinder to ourselves and look at how much progress we made albeit small steps.  Today, I would like to share with you a group of women who are dedicated to their craft. Those who have inspired me in my creative journey as well as mental wellness.  I chanced upon these two passionate creatives who were in their prime during their era. This is Bridget Riley- a painter and printmaker. The inventor...

#lullyslist | #my1959

Hey! I'm sure you have seen our recent shawl design on our Instagram feed and stories. It's a tribute to 60 years of our National State Crest, National Pledge and National Anthem. The team and I were so honoured to be part of #my1959. When briefed to create a design based on these symbols, we chose the National Anthem.  We have all sang the Majulah Singapura all our lives during school assembly but do we really relate every word of it to our lives now? The composer Zubir Said is stranger to none. I wanted to know more about this talented man and his thought process while composing our National Anthem. In excitement, I went to the nearest library from...

#selbsseries | Why is journaling important for you

Being one half of Lully Selb can get very pressurizing, as I handle the business side of things as well as keeping the brand as creative as possible. It is also a very big myth that creativity is only about art, music and dance. To me, in today's challenging times, being creative is a survival skill. To run a business, manage a household, work in an organisation; creativity is needed. So what is creativity? My definition is to think out of the box and seeing things in a fresh perspective, not just splattering paints or doing a new dance movement. The next question is how can one be creative? Or for me - stay creative? There are many ways out...

#lullyslist | Dream with LS : Sarah Teng

I'm back on the blog to share with you our thought process with 3 brand new artists for our second cycle of #DreamwithLS. Lully Selb believes in challenging the status quo and expressing our unique individuality. We are always proud to feature our collaborating artists as this campaign brings us closer to our local creative community; no matter what craft the artists specialise in. Through the exposure on our platform and our expertise, they are able to foresee the exciting possibilities of where their craft can go (like on a shawl for a start!) at zero risk as all production costs are absorbed by us. The artists get to earn royalty fees too! However, being a creative myself, it's important...
