#LSwithyou is a social campaign to create awareness of artists with special needs. This time round, we are working with a new artist; Jie Wei who loves to paint using batik.
This series is an extension of the works Selma did with her for an art exhibition organised by BE kollective that was held at URA and graced by Mdm Rahaya, our MP.
"As the theme for the exhibition was Locality, Memories, Reconstruction, I decided to work on the Peranakan Heritage as I grew up in Joo chiat area. Walking along the Peranakan houses was something nostalgic and the patterns on the tiles always intrigued me. For this collection my art buddy Jie Wei used her batik skills and recreated the tiles of colourful pastels with a mix of florals and lines." - Selb
How we created it?
Jie Wei's original work was made using batik technique. To make it a bit more abstract, Selma added some black strokes and patterns. What you see on this print is exactly what Jie Wie has painted with some added strokes around the 4 tiles to give it a complete look.
